(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Dozens of contractors gathered Wednesday morning in Joliet to learn more about the Alternative Source Water Program, a pipeline project that will bring Lake Michigan water to six southwest Chicago suburbs. The suburbs served by the project are Joliet, Romeoville, Minooka, Channahon, Crest Hill and Shorewood. Those six suburban communities formed the Grand Prairie Water Commission in 2021 in order to 'provide a sustainable and reliable water supply to meet water needs and support continued growth and development in the region,' per its website.
